Tip’d

Ready for tax time, all year

Every shift you log is a line in your tip record, and the Year screen adds them up the way your tax return wants them: tips you kept, hourly pay and hours, how far you are from the No Tax on Tips limit, and your paychecks under them.

The Year screen, rebuilt here from made-up shifts: your totals, the deduction card, your paychecks and the two exports.

The No Tax on Tips card

From 2025 through 2028, up to $25,000 of reported tips a year can come off your federal taxable income. Tip’d's Year screen shows the tips you've kept this year, after tip-outs, next to that limit, and tells you when you've passed it; as the card says, income limits and other rules can reduce the deduction. It's the number you'll set beside your W-2 when you file. Our guides explain how the deduction works and the W-2 boxes that carry your tips.

Tip’d isn't tax advice. It keeps the record; your preparer knows what applies to you.

Paychecks and stubs together

Record each paycheck and attach a photo of the stub. In Tip’d 1.2, due out this month, attaching a stub photo or PDF to a new paycheck fills in what it can read, for you to check before you save. The Year screen lists your paychecks under your tips and hourly pay, and the export totals them, so what you made and what actually reached your bank account sit together.

Export your year

The Shifts sheet covers most of the daily tip record the IRS asks for: the date, your cash and card tips and what you tipped out, shift by shift; note whom you tipped out in each shift's note. Our guide covers how to report cash tips.

Questions people ask

Does the card count service charges?

Only if you logged them as tips. Keep service charge pay out of the tip fields, since it's wages, not tips, and doesn't qualify. See service charge vs. tip.

Can I export just one job?

Every export covers all your jobs, and both already total each one: the spreadsheet's By job sheet and the PDF's By job table. The Shifts sheet lists each shift's job too, so you can filter.

Does it cost anything?

No. The Year screen, paychecks and both exports are free, with no ads and no account. Read more about Tip’d.
